VALVE'S SECRET PROJECTS LEAKED: DECKARD VR, NEW CONTROLLERS, AND THE ETERNAL HALF-LIFE 3 DREAMS
Ever wondered what Valve does besides counting your Steam sale purchases? According to Tyler McVicker, they're busy cooking up more projects than Gordon Freeman has time for. The company's apparently working on something called Deckard, while a Half-Life 2 veteran suspiciously returns to the fold. Valve teasing Half-Life 3? What year is it again?
DECKARD: THE VR HEADSET OF YOUR DREAMS
Remember when Valve made the Index and everyone lost their minds? Well, they're at it again with Deckard. It's supposedly an all-in-one VR headset running on ARM (because apparently that's the cool thing to do now). Think Steam Deck but for your face, complete with the ability to play your Steam library on a virtual screen. The future is now, old man.
ROY: THE CONTROLLER NOBODY ASKED FOR BUT MIGHT LOVE
Valve looked at their Knuckles controllers and thought, "What if we made these more Quest-like?" The result? Roy controllers. They're packing D-pads, face buttons, and possibly enough cameras to make a TikTok influencer jealous. The finger tracking feature means you can flip off virtual enemies with unprecedented accuracy.
STEAM CONTROLLER 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO
Picture a Steam Deck that's been put on a diet and lost its screen. That's apparently what the Steam Controller 2 is shaping up to be. It's got VR tracking because why not add more features to something that should be simple?
THE HALF-LIFE CONSPIRACY CONTINUES
The most intriguing bit? Something called HLX lurking in the shadows. It might be using assets from Arty, which could become Deckard's fancy tech demo. Or maybe it's Half-Life 3. Or maybe it's just Gabe Newell laughing at us all. At this point, who knows?
WHAT IT ALL MEANS
Valve's cooking up more hardware than a mad scientist's laboratory. Between Deckard, Roy controllers, and Steam Controller 2, they're determined to make us spend money on things we didn't know we wanted. And somewhere in there, Half-Life 3 continues to be the gaming industry's favorite ghost story.
