Phasmophobia review - A Scary but Enjoyable Ghost Hunting Experience

I honestly don't know why I do this, I'm such a scared person and yet here I am playing a horror game, but I have to say, I made it through, but was it worth it? Keep reading to find out!

Graphical Goodness

The graphics in Phasmophobia are impressive and well done. The environment looks great, with a well-crafted atmosphere that really sets the mood for a scary fucking ghost hunt.

Particularly noteworthy is the updated lighting system, which heightens the dread and unease of every ghostly encounter. The game's equipment is also nicely detailed and appears realistic, which enhances the immersion of the whole experience.

are the bugs the scariest part?

Even on larger maps and with a less powerful computer, the game runs smoothly and won't make you watch a slideshow; this hasn't always been the case, but right now it's great.

And I’m happy to report that the game's ghosts—rather than its bugs, which are noticeably absent—are actually the scariest part of it.

Ghost and Equipment Selection

There's a good selection of ghosts and equipment in Phasmophobia, which the developers constantly update, giving players new and exciting experiences.

The game features a variety of ghosts from the classic poltergeist to the hateful horrible to play against twins, keeping the game fresh and interesting and making guessing a non-viable tactic

Map Selection

Phasmophobia features a variety of maps, from small to large, each providing a unique experience. However, the small maps lack the creepy atmosphere that the big maps offer, which can be a shame as the big maps can become tiring after a while, as they are much more time-consuming, especially if you aren’t with a full team.

streamer or afraid kid?

Phasmophobia's difficulty levels feel well-balanced and reliably reflect the degree of difficulty that each setting promises.

There is a setting that is ideal for you, regardless of whether you're a streamer who can somehow locate the ghost room solely based on smell or a scared hunter who would immediately be exiled from Ghostbusters; especially now there is a custom difficulty allowing you to customize each and every part of the experience.

Scary but Not Unplayable

Phasmophobia is a frightening game, but it's not so scary that it's unplayable. There are some jumpscares and the atmosphere is definitely unsettling, but as someone who frequently allocates horror game reviews to his girlfriend, I have to say that even I can handle this.

Multiplayer Fun

Because the game is designed to be played in multiplayer, Phasmophobia is best played with friends. The game is still enjoyable to play alone, but the true experience comes from playing with others, especially since playing alone limits you to small maps. IF YOU DON’T WANT TO GO LITERALLY INSANE FROM WALKING A MARATHON.

Updates and Changes

The updates in Phasmophobia are frequent and often bring a nice amount of improvements; however, the changes can sometimes break things that were previously working well. While it's great that the game is constantly evolving, it's a shame when good things are changed for the worse.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Phasmophobia has a lot of potential and is already an enjoyable game. With frequent updates and a solid foundation, it deserves a 8.5 out of 10.
