Microsoft's Acquisition of Activision Blizzard Set to Receive European Commission Approval, Thanks to Nintendo and Nvidia Deals

Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard is reportedly set to be approved by the European Commission

According to Reuters, the European Commission intends to approve Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard. This is not surprising given Microsoft's recent non-exclusive agreements with Nintendo and Nvidia.

Despite the apparent approval of the European Commission, other government agencies have yet to issue their verdicts. The British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) are still looking into the acquisition. In fact, the FTC has demanded that Sony reveal all deals struck since 2019 to obtain temporary exclusive content and games for PlayStation consoles.

Although Microsoft's acquisition is likely to go through, some gamers may be concerned about the future of Activision Blizzard's franchises. Will Microsoft keep them exclusive, or will they make them available to other platforms as well? Despite this, the recent deals should demonstrate to everyone that Microsoft is not planning any surprises in the coming 10 years.

This acquisition, in any case, will have a significant impact on the gaming industry. Microsoft will gain access to Activision Blizzard's extensive game library, which includes well-known franchises such as Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and the mobile hit Candy Crush. It remains to be seen how this acquisition will play out in the long run.
