Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 Guide: How to Find and Rescue John Wick's Dog
Tracking down a locked up black pitbull is your only ticket to scoring the new sidekick and a massive loot upgrade.
Whoever decided to lock John Wick's dog inside a cage clearly hasn't watched the movies, but their terrible life choices mean free loot for you. The Battle Pass for this season dropped one of the more memorable quests straight onto our laps. Somewhere out there on the map, a black pitbull is sitting inside a cage surrounded by heavily armed NPC guards. If you want to add the Dog (Pen & Ink) sidekick to your locker, you have to find him, clear the area, and set him free.
Before you waste three hours checking every single point of interest, you need to understand that this objective doesn't spawn in the same place every match. You won't see a convenient icon sitting on your main map either. I'm here to give you the exact coordinates so you can drop in and claim your Mythic weapon before the storm closes in.
Tracking Down the Spawn Locations
The game randomly selects one of two possible spawn zones at the very beginning of the match. If you land at the first spot and hear nothing but crickets, you need to immediately rotate to the second location. Keep an eye on your minimap for a tiny cage icon, or just listen closely for barking.
Sinister Strip Hotel Lobby
The first potential location is fairly straightforward. Drop into Sinister Strip and head for the large building located just south of the main text on your map. You'll know you're in the right place when you see Dark Voyager statues decorating the lobby. The dog spawns on the ground floor.
Battlewoods Sewers
The second spot is much trickier to navigate. The cage spawns underground inside the sewers beneath The Battlewoods. To get in, you have to jump into the river running alongside the area. There are three separate entry points. You can take the eastern wall tunnel, the north facing tunnel, or the southern entrance accessed from the east side of the Golden Reel movie theater. Head inside the damp tunnels and follow the barking.
If you want some reliable backup before diving into the underground tunnels, you can always hire a specialist using my Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 NPC locations guide. Having an extra gun watching your back makes clearing tight spaces much easier.
Surviving the Rescue Mission
Walking blindly up to the cage is a surefire way to get sent back to the lobby if you don't clear out the security detail first. The rescue process always plays out in a couple of rigid stages, and the guards don't mess around.
First, you have to deal with the initial wave of NPC guards. They will open fire the second you get close to the cage. Once you wipe them out, a fresh second wave of goons will immediately spawn. Take them down quickly. This is a highly contested drop spot, so expect heavy resistance the moment you fire your weapon. I highly recommend dropping directly onto these locations instead of looting the outskirts first.
For an extra passive buff to help survive the initial drop, make sure you understand the companion system by reading my Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 Sprites Guide.
Once the area is actually secure, interact with the cage to pop the lock. After the dog steps out, you have to interact with him one more time to pet him. Doing so finishes the quest and hands you your rewards.
Loot Drops and Unlockable Cosmetics
Getting a free Mythic weapon just for petting a good boy is the exact kind of economy I love. Petting the dog instantly restores your health and shields to full. It also drops a Mythic 9mm Baba Yaga pistol, and you have a chance to pull a Legendary Lancehead Pistol as well.
If you own the Battle Pass, petting the dog for the first time unlocks the Dog (Pen & Ink) sidekick in your locker. If you don't own the pass, you can still pet the dog for the weapon drops, but you won't get the cosmetic sidekick. If the cage is already popped open when you get there, don't panic. You can still walk up and pet the dog to claim your loot and finish your quest.
Once you actually have the sidekick unlocked, you can earn extra cosmetics simply by keeping it equipped during your matches.
