007 First Light News: First Update Teases Explosive Aston Martin Action

If you felt a little shortchanged by the brief driving segments in the main campaign, IO Interactive is about to hand you the keys to something much louder.

Rolling the credits on a spy thriller always leaves you wanting a little more action. Luckily, IO Interactive is already teasing their first major content drop for 007 First Light. Once you finish the main story, a new advertisement pops up on your main menu teasing an upcoming addition to the TacSim challenge mode.

The Valhalla Protocol

As spotted by Farzam on X, this new update is officially called the Valhalla Protocol. It takes the heavily armed, souped-up Aston Martin you briefly get to stare at during the main campaign and actually lets you take it off the leash.

Right now, the TacSim mode is strictly an on-foot affair. You sneak around, shoot some guards, and hack doors. The Valhalla Protocol looks like a massive departure from that formula. It promises a much larger course specifically designed for high-speed driving and blowing things up. Insane car chases are baked into the DNA of James Bond, so seeing the developers lean heavily into vehicular combat is a massive win. The driving sequences in the base game are incredibly linear and over way too fast, so getting a dedicated sandbox for the Aston Martin is exactly what this mode needs.

The Hitman Treatment

IO Interactive built a massive reputation with their Hitman franchise entirely through aggressive, long-term post-launch support. They kept those games alive for years with fresh contracts and new targets to eliminate. Seeing a teaser for the Valhalla Protocol this early gives me serious hope that they plan to treat 007 First Light with that exact same level of care.

We don't have a firm release date for this update just yet. Hopefully, it drops within the next few weeks so you can get back to causing millions of dollars in international property damage. I will keep an eye out for any official patch notes once IO Interactive locks down a launch window.
