Ori developer's new game set to "revolutionize" ARPG genre, says studio boss.
Thomas Mahler, the Creative Director at Moon Studios, recently revealed in a tweet that the studio is preparing to take on a significant genre-revolutionizing challenge with their upcoming game.
According to Mahler, the upcoming action role-playing game (ARPG) will either make or break the developer. He confidently claims that they are coming for the likes of Diablo and Path of Exile, two of the most popular games in the genre, and that "may the best one win!" Showing the potential the upcoming game has.
The details
Mahler didn't provide many details about the upcoming game, but his Twitter responses gave players some hints as to what to expect.
For example, In contrast to the side-scrolling gameplay of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, the game will reportedly have a top-down camera perspective.
Mahler also indicates that the studio isn't a fan of out-of-date combat systems, implying that they're working on something more interesting than what players are used to seeing in other games of the same genre.
No stranger to success
The yet-to-be-named game will be published by Take-Two Interactive's Private Division, which suggests that the title will have a high-budget meaning that the developers will be able to take all the time required to ensure they can deliver.
Moon Studios is no stranger to receiving high praise from critics; with the 2015 release of Ori and the Blind Forest and the 2020 release of its sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
The challenge
However, it appears that the studio is now prepared to take on the industry's powerhouses and, with their upcoming release, not only earn praise but also completely revolutionize a genre.
While the challenge may seem daunting, Mahler appears to be relishing it, stating that he loves the challenge of making a game that will not only compete with but also revolutionize the genre.
The upcoming ARPG from Moon Studios is definitely one to keep an eye on, and we are looking forward to sharing more details as we learn them.
