Nintendo to repair Joy-Con drift for free in Europe, regardless of warranty status

Nintendo has announced that it will now repair Joy-Con controllers with "drift" issues in Europe for free, even if they are out of warranty. This is fantastic news for gamers who have been plagued by Joy-Con drift, which causes characters to move without player input.

support

According to a Nintendo Support page, Nintendo will repair broken Joy-Cons for free when they are sent in, regardless of when the Switch controllers were purchased. This includes the entire continent of Europe, including the United Kingdom. However, there are some exceptions to the rule, such as when a Joy Con is defective due to the owner's inflicted damage or negligence, if the controller was opened by the user, or if the damage was caused by an accessory from another company.

forever

Nintendo has been dealing with the Joy-Con drift issue since the Switch console was released in 2017. Nintendo has already repaired defective Joy Cons for free in the majority of cases, but the company has now officially stated this on its website, implying that no further exceptions can be made.

wear and tear

The cause of Joy-Con drift is unknown, but it is thought to be related to wear and tear on the controllers. Drift has been reported by some gamers even on brand new controllers.

Precedent

Nintendo has demonstrated its commitment to providing excellent customer service to its European users with this move, which is a welcome gesture for gamers who have been affected by Joy-Con drift. This, hopefully, will set a precedent for other businesses to follow when it comes to repairing faulty products.
