Cyberpunk 2077's Overdrive Mode will be bringing Full Ray Tracing (path tracing) to PC

CD Projekt Red has announced that they are introducing a 'Overdrive Mode' to the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 on April 11, which will enable 'path tracing'. This means that the lighting in the game will be changed, making the game look even more realistic.

While VFX artists typically use this technology in films and television shows, CD Projekt Red is utilizing Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) to upscale the game and make this possible.

Path tracing, also known as 'full ray tracing,' is a hardware-intensive technique. However, Nvidia's Pawel Kozlowski has stated that this development not only provides players with better graphics, but also promises to revolutionize the entire game development process.

Although the exact system requirements have yet to be released, the technology was only made available with the release of GeForce RTX40 and DLSS 3, so the required hardware may be quite demanding.

cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the most eagerly anticipated games in recent years, but its release was marred by problems. Despite the game's early issues, CD Projekt Red has kept working on it, with the most recent update bringing significant improvements to the game's performance and graphics.

Path tracing via Overdrive Mode is a promising addition that will undoubtedly make the game more immersive for players.
