American McGee Tells Fans to Stop Asking About Alice: EA Controls the IP

American McGee, the creator of the popular Alice video game series, has stated that he is getting tired of being asked about the franchise's future. McGee stated on his Patreon page that Electronic Arts (EA) owns the rights to Alice and controls its fate. (VIA VCG)

straightforward

"The rights are straightforward: EA owns and controls Alice. "I'd appreciate it if people stopped asking me about the series," McGee wrote. He went on to say that anyone who wants to do something with the intellectual property (IP) is free to do so, but that if they try to sell it, they will get in trouble.

trying

McGee has been trying to get a third installment of the Alice franchise off the ground for some time. Despite his efforts, he revealed earlier this month that EA had no intention of doing so. "I tried everything to make a new Alice game," he said. "However, after internal analysis of the IP, market conditions, and proposal, EA decided not to take on the project."

the games

Fans adore the Alice games for their dark, twisted take on Lewis Carroll's classic story. American McGee's Alice, his first game, was released in 2000 and followed the adventures of a mentally disturbed Alice as she navigated a twisted Wonderland. The game was a critical and commercial success, prompting the release of a sequel, Alice: Madness Returns, in 2011.

For years, fans of the series have been clamoring for a third game, but it appears that their hopes have been dashed. According to McGee's statement, he is ready to move on from Alice and focus on other projects.

unclear

It's unclear why EA decided not to pursue another Alice game, but market conditions could have changed. The first two games were released more than a decade ago, and the gaming industry has since evolved. It's also possible that EA simply does not value the franchise.

ready

Whatever the reason, McGee is clearly ready to put Alice behind him. Fans must accept that the franchise's fate is out of his hands and in the hands of EA. As McGee himself put it, "Further questions you can ask EA. I'd like to put some distance between myself and Alice."
